Nose Ornament
Western India (probably Maharashtra) /
Late 18th – early 19th century
A mango-shaped nose ornament (nath) made of gold and set with a single heart-shaped diamond, three ruby beads and an emerald bead, within an exquisite cluster of 15 natural Basra pearls. Ornaments for the nose take on a variety of shapes ranging from tiny, sometimes single gem studs to jewelled hoops that rest on the curve of the nostril. |
